Lesson 6. Mineral and Energy Resources: Distribution and Industries
Map the spatial distribution of key minerals: iron ore (Singhbhum, Bellary), coal (Jharia, Raniganj), manganese, bauxite, and crude oil (Mumbai High, Assam). This knowledge forms the basis for understanding the location of major industries (steel in Jamshedpur, Bokaro; aluminum in Korba). Also study non-conventional energy sources (solar, wind) and their potential regions. The “Indian Bureau of Mines” website and the “Ministry of Coal” portals offer statistical updates. The “National Atlas & Thematic Mapping Organisation (NATMO)” maps are excellent for visual learning of resource belts.
